Ayurveda Home Visits for Elderly and Bedridden Patients
For an elderly parent with painful knees, a patient recovering from a stroke, or anyone who is bedridden, the journey to a medical center can be the hardest part of getting treatment. An Ayurveda home visit brings the doctor, the medicines and the therapy to the patient instead.
Ayur Jeewaka provides doctor-led home visits from Minuwangoda across the Gampaha district. This article explains who the service is for, what a visit involves and how to arrange one.
Healing is easier in a familiar room. Our task is to bring our center's standard of care through the patient's own front door.
A home visit is not a reduced service. The Ayurveda doctor carries out the same pulse examination (Nadi Pariksha) and assessment as at the center, prescribes medicine prepared at our dispensary and, where therapy is needed, brings a therapist and portable equipment.
Families are part of the plan. The doctor explains the diet, the medicine schedule and the simple care routines that should continue between visits, and follow-up visits check progress.
Who home visits are for
- Elderly patients with restricted mobility, osteoarthritis or chronic stiffness.
- Bedridden patients, including care that helps to prevent bedsores.
- Patients recovering from a stroke who need regular rehabilitation therapy.
- Patients recovering after surgery or a hospital stay.
- Anyone for whom travel is painful, risky or exhausting.
What an Ayurveda home visit includes
- A full consultation, with pulse examination and a review of medical records.
- Herbal medicines, decoctions and oils prepared for the patient and delivered to the home.
- Therapies such as gentle oil massage (Abhyanga) and warm fomentation (Swedana), using portable equipment and sterile disposable linen.
- Passive limb exercises and positioning advice for patients who cannot move unaided.
- A written diet and medicine schedule, and planned follow-up.
How to arrange a home visit
The process has four steps.
- Triage call: you describe the patient's symptoms, mobility and location by phone or WhatsApp.
- Preparation: the doctor prepares the medicines, oils and equipment needed.
- The visit: the doctor, and a therapist if therapy is planned, arrive at the agreed time.
- Follow-up: progress is monitored and the plan is adjusted at later visits.
Areas we cover
Visits are made from our Minuwangoda base. Minuwangoda, Veyangoda and Udugampola are closest and can usually be reached soonest. We also travel regularly to Gampaha, Negombo, Katunayake and Ja-Ela, and by arrangement to Ragama, Kadawatha, Divulapitiya and Meerigama.
If you are unsure whether your address is covered, call or message us with the location.
Hygiene and safety
All mobile equipment is sterilised before it enters a patient's home, and disposable linen is used for therapies. A home visit is for planned care, not for emergencies: for chest pain, sudden weakness of the face or limbs, breathing difficulty or a serious fall, call an ambulance or go to the nearest hospital.
Frequently asked questions
Which conditions can be treated at home?
Joint pain and stiffness in the elderly, stroke rehabilitation, recovery after surgery and the long-term care of bedridden patients are the most common. The doctor will tell you if a condition needs care at our center or in a hospital instead.
Does the doctor come personally?
Yes. Home consultations are carried out by Dr. Sarath Wimalagunasekara, with a therapist when therapy is planned.
How do I book an Ayurveda home visit?
Call or WhatsApp +94 74 2939 239, or use the form on our contact page and choose "Home Visits" as the type.
